i was in my parents' mini van for 16 hours yesterday. i will describe it in terms of who drove and what music was listened to. all times are approximate
9:00AM - 12:00PM
I drove, we listened to my Lab Band CD and the One O'Clock Lab Band CD from 1975. the Lab 75 CD is significant because all the songs were composed or arranged by Lyle Mays (of Pat Metheny Group quasi-fame). then (apropros, concurrently) we listened to the eponymous Pat Metheny Group album. we ate lunch at Subway.
12:00PM - 6:00PM
my Dad drove. i read about 100 pages of Charlotte's Web because it is B. Thompson Stroud THE AUTHOR's favorite book, and i remember enjoying it as a child. i took a nap through almost all of Kansas. SCORE! I woke up and finished Charlotte's Web. music included some Chris Botti stuff my dad likes listening to as well as the Best of Sade.
quote of the trip:
My Dad: "You know, it's not every day you find a CD that has so many good songs all on one album."
My Mom: "Mike, that's why it's called the BEST of Sade."
i woke up at about 5:00 and we ate at wendys sometime around 6:00.
6:00PM - 8:00PM
I drove. we tore out of the Wendy's parking lot listening to Spymob's Sitting Around Keeping Score. then we listened to Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Vol. 1. the parents needed to use the restroom, so we stopped at a gas station. the plan was to have me drive the last leg (AKA IOWA) of the journey.
8:00PM - 10:00PM
my Mom drove. i can't remember all of what we listened to but we definitely listened to Bob Dylan's Love and Theft.
10:00PM - 1:00AM
I drove. we finished Love and Theft and i put in Fleming and John's The Way We Are we listened to that maybe 2.5 times, mostly because i was too lazy to think of what other CD i wanted to listen to. then we just listened to various Minneapolis radio stations, as we were nearing the Twin Cities metro area.
i took a shower then collapsed on my bed.
