iron hook redux

so i have a new dentist now. i had previously gone to a dentist's office where the dental hygienists jabbed me in the gums so many times i nearly fell unconscious from blood loss[/hyperbole]. my appointment today took only about 15 to 20 minutes and was nigh painless. i'm glad i have a new dentist.

brought up at work: Why does Cities 97 play Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" EVERY SINGLE DAY?! isn't that song like 10 years old?

analogy:

"Fast Car" is to Alternative Radio as "One of These Nights" is to Classic Rock radio. i.e. you can't go a single day without hearing it on the radio (unless you don't listen to the radio, but that's not the point).

i'm brainstorming up ways to make my posts a little less boring. there may be a few "name your favorite this" or "name your top five that." maybe i should think up some other contest. those always seem pretty amusing.

Top Fives are always great. That's how I waste time now. Oh god...I'm turning into a High Fidelity character. Posted by: Ben at May 13, 2004 04:49 PM

True story: I've never heard "Fast Car" on the radio in Texas. EVER. The first time I ever heard the song was a year and a half ago when I (gasp, no</i<!) did a dance to it at a workshop. Another true story: my mother just gave me perhaps the dumbest thing in the world to give you when I visit here in a month or so. The best part- you'll most likely see/appreciate the humor in it. I'm just warning you, if Top 5 has anything to do with music, mine will be filled with "Fast Car," Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow, how about rounding it off with the amazingly talented Five for Fighting and The Wallflowers? Posted by: Rob at May 13, 2004 07:50 PM
I think Fast Car is even older than that....maybe 15 years old. Posted by: Kev at May 13, 2004 11:03 PM
yeah the song was released in 1988. i just keep forgetting that we're nearly halfway through the decade, so i round to 2000. dang that song is 16 years old, and they play it EVERY DAY. Posted by: john at May 14, 2004 12:21 AM
