real musician elimination show
someone needs to produce a "reality" TV show quasi-akin to American Idol or Rockstar: INXS, but it needs to involve actual, talented (AKA Jazz) musicians. judging could be done by jazz legends who are still alive (there are some).
Quincy Jones would be a great choice, because he's also done so much visible commercial stuff, and has a recognized name that could help promote the show.
with the right network and the right kind of publicity, i think a show like that could do really well.

DAMN I've ALWAYS thought that. Maybe if they got someone to publicize it, this could be the new jump start jazz needs to not, you know, die. Or at least the jump start to more shameless commercialization of the art again. Woo!
There are still a bunch of AMAZING Current Jazz Artists that even jazz students tend to overlook because they are not comercialized. good examples are mehldau, rosenwinkel, wayne krantz, adam rogers, bill stewart, john ellis...just to name a few...I think something like that would diminish the only genre still left not entirely exploited for profit.
Besides, those that DO appreciate this type of music...would (i would imagine) frown upon something almost demeaning like that.
People should play music because they have a passion in their heart for it...not to gain publicity...and recognition (which is all American Idol and the like is....unfortunately...hence why none are actually good musicians)
