here are some more things people actually typed into search engines, only to wind up on my site:

i made the 6 o clock lab band on 2nd trumpet. ben made the 3 o clock lab band on 2nd trumpet.
OH!
by all accounts, this day is pretty good.
thus ends my first day of classes. i have the rest of the day to do what i want.
i feel like i need to play Pinkerton 1,000 more times.
so 8 of us (me, stones, ben, franklin, ross, shannon, teresa and sarah) went to hooters and teresa and i had a rematch on our wing eating contest. it was a contest for amount, not speed. well, it turns out that they shorted us 4 wings of our 50-wing plate, so we were poised to stop at 23 wings apiece, until some more wings were gathered from other people's plates at our table, bumping our total to 25 apiece.
after dinner, shannon, teresa and i went to the Rave (movie place) and saw Napoleon Dynamite. seeing it with a first-timer (teresa) was really great, and the "extra scene" they added at the end was decent.
after the movie, i browsed the radio stations of North Texas. North Texas has like 3 times the number of FM stations than Minnesota, i swear. not too many of them are good, except for the TCU radio station, which, on the way TO hooters managed to play Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, The Bens, and The Postal Service, whose lead singer is Ben Gibbard. i was flipping out that such a station could exist in North Texas, but then understood because it's a college station. too bad it doesn't come in that great.
back at bruce, i sat at the front desk and made conversation and watched people come and go. it was pretty relaxing and fun. after midnight, ben, franklin, and sarah returned from seeing the new Jet Li movie, Hero and we went up to Ben/Franklin's room to watch Pulp Fiction. i got to bed at about 3:00 AM.
i have my second round legit audition today at 10:36. my guess is that i'll do all right. i did all right.
i hope i'm not totally off base here, but i feel i did A GOOD JOB on my lab band audition. now we play the waiting game until tuesday afternoon!
EDIT: my mood can be described with the song "Good Thing" by Reel Big Fish.

this is going on my dorm room door as soon as i get to a printer:

last night i played some Ultimate with people who i guess are on the UNT Ultimate team. it was more of a pickup situation, but there were people there who more or less knew how the game worked. their lack of chilliness was appalling, but it was fun.
after frisbee, i showered and put on my pajamas for pajamarama, which is basically one huge get-to-know-you game, but not the lame kind. well, it has the potential to be lame by the fact that it's a get-to-know-you game, but it remains unlame. hopefully some of the people's names i learned will stick in my head.
i think i have to go take care of some business with my housing payment. that's probably a good idea.
i went to the Twins-Rangers game at Ameriquest Field at Arlington with Kev and Matt deSatchmo or whatever the hell his name is ;-)
first off, Ameriquest field is the first REAL baseball stadium i've ever been to. it rocks the pants off of the Metrodome in every way concievable. the seating is better, and there are fireworks.
it was really fun being the guy cheering for the away team. REALLY FUN. our pitching tonight was crap-tastic, especially Joe Nathan's close. i was like "COME ON, JUST DO YOUR JOB AND THROW 3 STRIKEOUTS."
as i was exiting the stadium, i exchanged a victorious smile with some random cute girl wearing a twins jersey.
i have no idea what to do about the audition i may or may not have tomorrow. i think i'll wake up around 9:00 and check the places the info will most likely be. i checked the places today, but there was nothing, so maybe it got put up sometime after 5:00 PM today. who knows.
my lab band audition is Saturday at 11:10 AM. this is important to remember.
tomorrow there's also a meeting for UNT Ultimate. score!
my dad and i left at about 5:00 AM yesterday and didn't get in to Denton until about 7:30.
we listened to SO many CDs. but some highlights included
i'm still getting situated in the room, but most of my stuff is in it's place
expect better writing later
who just gets up at 4:00 in the morning to go to college?
JOHN GUARI, that's who.
goodbye minnesota!
why did i think i would get to sleep last night?
it's my last day home today. yesterday's packing involved moving things i wasn't really using (most of my clothes) into another room, but today's packing involves moving mainstays of my stationary life into a car.
i could spend the next however many minutes trying to think of some poetic leaving home stuff to write, but i won't. i like it in texas, i like it here. texas isn't home, but it still is really nice, and a place where i belong.
before long, i'll be posting about how hard that audition was, or how much i've been practicing, or how much stuff i've done with so and so. this weblog will transform back into a way for my home friends to keep tabs on me while i'm far away.
the jamie cullum version of "high and dry" is on constant repeat in my head.
the internet broke a couple days ago in my house. it just got fixed. i packed some today, which means i staged a bunch of baskets of clothes in my living room to be put into the old lumina. part of my dad involved taking all my CDs and putting them into a basket, where they will stay this year. most of my music will be from my computer, with one 128 CD wallet.
these are the majority of my CDs.
i can't decide if that's more than i thought i had, or less. i do indeed have a lot of unpurchased music on my comp. over 32 GB currently, soon to be more than that, as i'm ripping some Beatles CDs i never got around to.
let's see. i went to two of the three Twins-Yankees games. it was sweet seeing Derek Jeter not earning his $30 Million.
i can't think of much else interesting. i'll work my posting frequency back up eventually. probably after all my moving.
i leave monday the 23rd of august at approximately 5:30 AM. how will i do that, seeing as i haven't gone to bed before 3:00 AM for the past 5 or 6 days? WHO KNOWS?!
Such boundless pleasure
We've no time for later now
after seeing that a good and funny website posted what real people typed into search engines to end up there, i decided to search my webstats for some. here are some choice ones:

i got some hurrs cut yesterday. this is what i looked like about 5 minutes ago.
just for reference, this is what i once looked like.
GEEZ that was long and unruly. and also it was over two years ago.
i'm wearing my Ozma shirt in both of those pictures. COINCIDENCE!
okay, so i'm listening to Rock and Roll Part 3 which may be one of the greatest albums you never heard (or DID here, depending). that album practically defined my transition from "way dorky kid" to "still way dorky, if not dorkier kid, but i'm ok with it...kid." it's really too bad that Ozma broke up. they are were such an awesome musical force.
i remember countless times trying to point out to people the differences between Weezer and Ozma. some people understood, others scoffed.
i remember going to Warped tour in 2002, not because i wanted to see the F-ing Alkaline Trio or something like that, but because i wanted to see melodic, poppy, sensical music, and also to quasi-mosh to "Korobeiniki"the Tetris theme song.
i remember going to the worst small venue in town Ascot Room at the Quest to see Ozma supporting their third album.
one more thing from my young adulthood gone
oh no
it go
it gone
bye bye
(bye)
Everytime I think I'm finished being young
I catch myself having fun
But the moment passes as the sun moves on
So I turn myself back to you
in case you guys didn't know, this past weekend was international "spend every day with someone you know named emilia weekend." am i the only one who observes these holidays? GEEZ~!
i woke up yesterday at 2:00, had to clean up some doggy barf, and went to work ripping a bunch of my CDs onto my comp so i can make room in my CD wallet thing.
after a dinner of muenster cheeseburgers, i went to emilia's house and we watched disc 1 of Undergrads. UNDERGRADS IS THE BEST SHOW. then we listened to George Harrison, whose music i need to pick up.
ok i gotta go pick up Cra Hogle, because we have to go to work. i don't know why i got up early enough to tool around on the internet this morning!
i went CD shopping with emilia at Cheapo today. this was my biggest music splurge of the summer. here it is:
OutKast - ATLiens. part of my ongoing pursuit to own actual copies of music that i download. also in the same vein is...
Actionslacks - The Scene's Out of Sight. OK so i actually own it now! huzzah.
Actionslacks - Too Bright, Just Right, Goodnight. it was four dollars, so why not?
The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk. sustained my craving for new wave!
Groove Armada - Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub). this is a good electronic album. i would totally play it at a party. it would get things going GOOD.
The Mothers of Invention - Absolutely Free. i couldn't pass up a $10.00 Frank Zappa/Mothers CD that i didn't own.
Jamie Cullum - Twentysomething. yes i own it for real now.
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream. worth $7.00 for sure. they had Gish too, but i'm in no rush.
so, that was 8 CDs at a total price tag of $63.77. that comes out to about $7.90 per CD. not bad at all.
after purchasing these discs, emilia and i adventured our way into downtown MPLS to find the downtown Pizza Luce. after finding reasonable parking and navigating the treacherous waters of 1st avenue, we arrived there. i had lemonade (free refills).
***TANGENT***
good conversation right here.
Me: "I'm gonna get lemonade! They give free refills!"
Emilia: "You just spent sixty dollars, and you're worrying about refills?"
***TANGENT
we ordered a margherita pizza, which was good and i told her the story of my year. it took maybe 45 minutes, i'd say. we then drove around south MPLS while i listened to stories of her year. emilia does a lot of details and her story took the better part of 2 and 1/2 hours. at some point during the night, some really annoying parkway police trailed us. wtf was that about?
emilia is a good person. she and i are different in many ways, but similar in others. it felt nice to be able to talk to someone in complete stories and to be a listener for someone else. i think sometimes when you explain things out loud for someone who isn't you, you start to understand what you're saying more.
so to emilia, thanks for spending time with me today talking and listening. it was really good. you're a good friend, and i love you, even if we have a tendancy to bicker and try to out-music-elitist the other person to DEATH A LOT OF THE TIME.
it is sort of sad though. due to either some configuration problem with emilia's Safari browser, or some incompatibility/bad code/whatever with my website, she can't comment on my site right now, but i'm sure she'd say something particularly befitting of her character. i'll try to fix that up emilia, if i figure out how.
today was the end-of-summer tourney for the Twin Cities Ultimate summer league. we played iffy, and lost to the U of M team in the 2nd round. that's right about where our record for the summer says we should be at. it was great fun and i'd probably do it again.
i gotta pick ben up at 4:20 to go to the Lake Nokomis after party/picnic deal.
i'm wearing new shorts.
Muscly-Armed Paperboys played Hooniebear 2: Return of the Dank for the THIRD TIME this summer. they beat us all three times, but we did well. our record for the whole summer (not counting the tourney on saturday) is 7-5. not bad at all for a bunch of goofballs.
after the game, M.A.P. headed over to dairy queen, where the employees had obviously NOT thawed the cake like they were supposed to. eric was having trouble cutting the cake with the first knife they had, and the second knife blade BROKE OFF THE HANDLE. that's some serious ice cream cake we're talking about. i had 3 pieces, which pretty much decimated me with chocolatey and cookie-y goodness. i drove ben and john lydon home, then drew came over and we chillaxed festively in front of the TV. we saw Driven: Usher and Celebrity Poker.
OMG BEN DECKER. dave navarro was on Celebrity Poker. i know you would've been psyched for that. WOOF WOOF.
i just had a an 8:00 PM, one-hour lesson with Brad Shermock (read: started at 8:30, got out at 10:30).
i'm so frickin' pumped to be back at UNT. i want to be there right now. i want to be playing music because i am addicted to the stuff.
so XO was the music of the night last night. today i brought some CDs in to the warehouse. i brought the Killers' Hot Fuss, the Postal Service's Give Up, Rilo Kiley's The Execution of All Things and the Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
all of those were played except Rilo Kiley.
also, for anyone who was confused about my post regarding Jamie Cullum, i'm truly serious when i say he makes really good music.
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: ok bedtime
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: what should i burn
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: to listen to for bed
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: i'm thinking Elliott Smith's XO
[00:34] FooDew13: elliot smith
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: SNAP
[00:34] FooDew13: always puts me to sleep
[00:34] FooDew13: creepy!@
[00:34] gotmyphilosophy: WHAAAAA
i want to write songs about things. two problems with this:
1. my piano in MN is crap
2. my lyrics ideas are crap, AKA i have none
in 2 weeks, my piano problem will be solved. how will i get/make lyrics? hm.
everyone go out and check out the album Twentysomething by Jamie Cullum. both Siri and I will tell you that it FUSES THE INTIMACY OF A JAZZ SHOW WITH THE ENERGY OF A ROCK SHOW.
it's true. it really is.
friday night, Cra, Ellie Hill and i visited ben at the EXTREME TRAMPOLINE at the mall of america. we got to jump on it for several EXTREME MINUTES. then we went to ben's to watch Reservoir Dogs and chat. that was fun.
saturday, i woke up late, played video games, and then my friend Holli Bruce came to visit. she worked at camp shamineau with me a couple years ago. we watched Office Space with liesl and then went to see the Bourne Supremacy with cra and ben. liesl, holli and i then made s'mores at liesl's house.
more sleeping in late today for me. i only have 2 more weeks until i'm back to UNT. it's pretty exciting.
also, this is a little late, but this is how i played versus the Gravitron team last thursday.

the Muscly-Armed Paperboys won today versus Gravitron. our record is 7-4. there's only one more week of games. i will have perfect attendance!
i crave weekend!
Rilo Kiley's new album, More Adventurous is something to get excited about. i listened to a few tracks off of it. it is going to be GREAT. buy it.
dear friends in minnesota,
you are all great people and i am privileged to know you all. spending time with people here is excellent. knowing that i can just go over to someone's house and do NOTHING and have a great time is wonderful. you're all straight shooters with upper management written all over you.
friend,
john guari
i am home from work way early because i have some gig at the National Sports Center playing for figure skaters or something.
i came home and ate a roast beef sandwich with strawberries and milk while listening to the Postal Service on our family room stereo. i love speakers. headphones are cool too, but speakers are great. i can't wait to blast music in my dorm room back at UNT.
so yesterday i watched Donnie Darko with Ben, John Lydon and Tom Lydon. tonight i watched Donnie Darko with Liesl, Gregg Holderman, [actual name]Chris Wanker[/actual name], and Laura McCarthy. it was good to see chris and laura after so much time.
i think i'm starting to understand most of the aforementioned movie. i'm psyched for the director's cut to come out on DVD.
only three weeks left, people. that isn't a lot of time. get your kicks in before i leave (kicks to the left, punches to the right plz. thx).
i found a paper note that someone had put under the windshield wiper of my car. it was pretty much mushed up, but i could see it said it was to me. does anyone have any idea who it could be from or something like that. it could've been there for days and i would not have noticed it.
curious.

EDIT: in the bottom picture, siri's with her friend parker, and her friend/roommate megan, left to right. FYI you guys...FYI.
ideally, i would have been practicing as much, if not more this summer than at UNT this past year. i'm not an ideal person. the level and frequency of practice didn't occur at optimal levels.
the past week and the coming 3 weeks are devoted to hardcore trumpet practicing. i played through my jury piece from 2nd semester, as well as the first two Charlier etudes. i was able to get through them all, though perhaps not as beautifully as when i was at my peak at the end of the school year.
one good thing is that i've been playing a few gigs around town over the summer, so my jazz mindset is already here.
Charlier etudes = hard hard hard hard.
i'm not half as scared to go to college as i was last year. i know what to expect now, and if buckle down, and sight read well in my lab band audition, i should do fine. i already have my foot in the door, anyhow.
Lawrentian H. Alexander Weck threw a party commemorating the 2nd full moon in the month of July yesterday/today. it was pretty fun. ben was going to go, but he decided not to, much to my chagrin. i sort of floated around and watched Alex do things, until Siri got there.
i watched siri go out of her mind socialize and talked with her friends and also some of the people i didn't know at the party. i met people who knew people i knew, so i wasn't totally without conversation material. i did my little "explain why i'm going to school in texas" spiel to people. sometimes twice.
i'm pretty sure everyone at the party knew that LADY Siri and I went to Prom together in 2002. she made sure of that.
i had a good time, and weck destroyed me in ping pong, like 21 to 4 or something ridiculous. my game is off, and i need to cultivate it in the lobby of Bruce Hall once more!
