DUDE

this is for some reason hilarious to me. i found this researching a paper on the etymolgoies of the word "dude" and the phrase "pig latin."

Yo, dude, 'zapning? I ripped-off my old lady; Terminator Twelve, check it out! Dude!

(Translation: "Hello, old fellow, how are you? I have pilfered some money from my mother's purse. Please accompany me, at my expense, to the theater to view Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest film." "I would be delighted. You are a friend whom I hold in high esteem.")

Dude that chick's got a way-happening rack!

(Close translation: "My goodness, that young woman is generously endowed!")

speaking of short-lived

yeah, so i quit the country band. i hate country music. nearly all of it. i just wasn't feeling it with the particular group. that plus i have a billion other things and i cant really devote as much time to the country band as it was going to have taken. so me and country music broke it off after the second date.

jack daniels, if you please, knock me to my knees

okay, so on saturday, i played this pop gig with groove academy. i had seen them about a month ago and i chatted with their keyboard player, saying that i was pretty sure i could play all those songs. i mean, i knew most of them already. the repetoire is mostly dance and discos songs. KC and the Sunshine Band, Bee Gees, Chic, Kool and the Gang, etc.

so i get a call about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago from the keyboardist, saying that he needs me to sub for him on the 10th. that gig eventually got canceled, but he needed another sub for the following saturday, the 17th, so i worked up the music and played with them.

the first set, i was pretty nervous about, just because the gig had about 40+ songs on it and it was all stuff that was supposed to be memorized. i had a few rough places here and there, but it was mostly pretty good. my volume was down too low for me to hear myself most of the time, but by the 2nd set, i had put my levels at the right spot. the 2nd set was when all the 40 and 50 year olds came out to dance to old disco music, and it was super fun. the third set had less people dancing, but more than the first set. it was a fun time, and i'll enjoy subbing in this band whenever i can.

i'm coming to the realization that it's a lot easier to make money as a keyboardist than as a trumpet player, which brings me to my next point, and the title of this post.

i joined a country band.

i guess.

yeah, sorta.

daniel, the bassist in my band, the Great American Challenge also plays with a few other groups, including this country band, whose name i don't know. they had some issues with the previous keyboardist and daniel told me that they were looking for someone new, so i sat in on their rehearsal last week and they told me to come again this week.

have i been in texas too long?

(y'all?)

texas is debilitatingly hot

so i'm usually physically spent by 4:00 PM every day, because it is one million degrees and i do a fair bit of walking around campus. I'm in the 24-hour computer lab right now. I have to turn in an outline on an etymology paper tomorrow, and all things have to be typed. i possess neither the internet nor a printer currently (i'll get the former on friday), so off to the lab i went.

this etymology paper will have me studying the origins of two words. it's suggested that newer slang terms (aka "bootylicious") will be more interesting to research and present.

all i want to do is sleep right now. alas, i cannot.

crazy summer one

so i am without internet in my apartment for a bit. my only access is at the computer labs on campus. all my stuff is completely moved to my new apartment. i'm liking it very much. concurrently (vis a vis, quid pro quo), i've been listening to the song "My Apartment" by Ben Kweller. it very much applies to my situation.

this weekend involves going to mesquite to help elizabeth move, going to the frisco ikea and buying massive amounts of stuff (i'm thinking 10,000 drinking glasses; a $5,000 value!!), and MAYBE relaxing at some point.

movin' out

so i'm on and off packing, listening to sad bastard music. the walls are echoey, because there's no furniture to absorb the sound. tomorrow, i move my big stuff, but i have until wednesday to move out of my current residence. i will make this a multi-step process.
